Connect IQ apps
Install, update and remove apps, turn them on or off and put them back in order – also on watches that hide their app folder, such as the fēnix 8. Apps you added in the Connect IQ store wait on the same page.
What it does
-
Sync with Garmin Connect
New activities, sleep, HRV and other data go up; courses, workouts and apps queued in Garmin Connect come down to the watch. TrueUp too.
-
Software updates
Updates for the device, downloaded from Garmin and checked before they are written to it.
-
Maps
Free maps such as TopoActive, CourseView and Ski, checked before they are written, and maps of your own.
-
Music
Music, podcasts and audiobooks, with playlists.
-
Activities
The activities of the watch and of its backups – sport, time, distance and ascent – exported as GPX.
-
Backups and diagnostics
Backups of the device and copies of its diagnostic files, kept on your computer; the primary training device and the primary wearable.
- GTK 4 and libadwaita
- Command line
- Sync in the background
- No telemetry
- Light and dark style
- English and Polish
Devices
Tested by the developer on a fēnix 8, an Edge 1050 and a Varia RTL515, and reported working by users on more fēnix, Instinct, Edge, Forerunner and inReach models. Other Garmin watches and bike computers that connect over USB should work too – reports are welcome. What works on each: Supported devices.
Requirements
-
System
Linux with Flatpak; the GNOME runtime comes from Flathub. Watches that connect over MTP need gvfs with its MTP backend (gvfs-mtp), which GNOME has.
-
Garmin
A Garmin Connect account, and the Garmin Express installer for Windows: openExpress reads two values from your own copy during setup, so it carries no Garmin code. No Windows needed.
Updates arrive with flatpak update or in GNOME Software. Without the repository, download the .flatpak bundle from Releases; a bundle does not update itself. Other ways to install.
Privacy
- No telemetry.
- Your password is typed only on Garmin's page.
- Sync never deletes files from the watch, and every file written to it is checked.
More: Privacy and security.
